“Cinderella is not only a fairy tale character,” Prokofiev said, “but also a living being, who feels and lives, and whose fate moves us”. Following the example of this essentially human vision, Jean-Christophe Maillot toys with the natural and the supernatural to unfold this great picture book which is to us both familiar and unfamiliar. Guided by the memory of her mother, Cinderella opens her own path, searching for recognition and love, amongst the tragic excessiveness of a court with a sophisticated attractiveness. Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo’s Cinderella premiered in 1999 at the Monte-Carlo Opera House.
